2018 Steuben Parade Queen

Lisa Mende was crowned as Steuben Queen for the 2018 Steuben Parade Chicago, on Sunday, August 5, 2018. The crowning took place at Tag der Donauschwaben in Des Plaines Illinois.

Inge Himmel of the United German-American Societies of Greater Chicago officiated over the ceremony. Lisa Mende has been a Kinderchor member for 16 years and a Jugendchor member for the past five years. She will be on her fourth trip to Germany with the Kinderchor in June 2019 and will start her second year at Northwestern University, where she is majoring in environmental science. Besides singing, Lisa’s hobbies include playing the ukulele, bike riding, photography and skiing. She is currently working as an ecological restoration intern for the Village of Glenview.

At the ceremony Inge Himmel placed the Steuben Queen ribbon and sparkling tiara on Lisa. United German Societies President Erich Himmel presented Steuben Queen a bouquet of red roses. In her acceptance speech Lisa thanked everyone for this great honor in representing the German American Community at the Steuben Parade and other festivities throughout the year.

She also emphasized that her German heritage is an important part of her life. The out-going Steuben Queen Stephanie Lorenz also received a bouquet of roses and wished Lisa the best of luck during her reign.
